Booksigning At Waterstones Bracknell

Book Cover

On the 3rd of November 2010 I was asked by my publisher to do a book signing, for my first book – Kristina’s Destiny. This was in the book store of Waterstones in Bracknell, Berkshire.

Sadly he did not bother asking me for input as to which towns in my locality would be more suitable. The publisher lived in Yorkshire, and I assume from his choice of town for this book signing, he did not know anything about the towns near to where I live.

It was also something I was not really comfortable doing. I knew if a suitable venue was chosen, it would be good publicity for my book.

A week before the signing, posters and the other usual items was sent to me and I was basically told to get on with it. So I spent a few afternoons just before the 3rd November, going along to all local libraries, asking if they would put up some publicity. I canvassed shops in the town where the signing was taking place, some were helpful others not.

I contacted the Bracknell news and they ran an article in their newspaper and the same photographer, who came to my house a couple of months before, also turned up to take my photograph.

My husband agreed to accompany me for moral support. As it turned out I would have died from boredom had he not been there.

The contact at the store said that it was not an easy store to get peoples interest. They had positioned a table for me, complete with some of my books just inside of the door. The session was to last about three hours.

After two hours I had been asked directions by a passing customer, and a couple of people had said ‘Good Morning’ to me. If anyone came anywhere near the table I asked them, if they would be interested in a signed copy of my book. Alas no one was.

There were not that many customers coming into the store, and those that were had come in there for something specific.

We stayed there another thirty minutes, we were both very cold – the double doors were wide open.

I had not had great expectations, but to not sign one book was very disappointing.
